Author Henry Richard Dana Jr. described the high bluffs and sheltered coves of Dana Point as “the only romantic spot on the coast.” Admired for its ideal climate and staggering beauty, Dana Point is home to the Dana Point natural harbor and the famous Ocean Institute. At its core is the colorful Lantern Village with historic Dana Point homes and streets adorned with different colored lanterns used 200 years ago by ships pulling into harbor. The community of Dana Point is a small community that cares and actively participates in making sure their town is clean, safe, and friendly.

Transportation

Dana Point has one of the few harbors along the Orange County coast with ready access to the Pacific Coast Highway, which provides intercity access to the all the nearby beach communities. Interstate 5 Freeway also runs through the city, creating easy travel north to south. Dana Point is centrally located between San Diego and Los Angeles, and has access to four major airports within about an hours drive.

Any time you head down to the Dana Point Harbor, you’ll be sure to stumble upon an exciting planned or impromptu event, or you can just walk and enjoy the majestic views and quaint restaurants. The harbor is also the gateway to Doheny State Park where people enjoy camping, picnicking, swimming, surfing, bicycling, and more. Dana Point also holds several annual events, such as the Festival of Whales every March and Tall Ships Festival every September which is famous for being the largest gathering of its kind on the West coast.

Schools
