Dana Point has one of the few harbors along the Orange County coast with ready access to the Pacific Coast Highway, which provides intercity access to the all the nearby beach communities. Interstate 5 Freeway also runs through the city, creating easy travel north to south. Dana Point is centrally located between San Diego and Los Angeles, and has access to four major airports within about an hours drive.

Dana Point also holds several annual events, such as the Festival of Whales every March and Tall Ships Festival every September which is famous for being the largest gathering of its kind on the West coast.
